Maintaining a Good Relationship with Your Landlord

Sometimes your apartment or house landlord can be a real pain in the behind. Sometimes you just really want to be on good terms with your landlord so you want to impress him or her. Either way, here is a short guide on how to maintain a good relationship with your landlord:

  1. Communicate – There’s nothing a landlord likes more than knowing exactly what the state of the residence is, when you’re going to be paying, property issues such as a bathroom leak, etc.
  2. Pay in Advance – If you can afford it, then do it! The landlord will love you. Seriously.
  3. Pay on Time – If you aren’t pay in advance then you better be paying on time. It will make your landlord happy. After all, your relationship with your landlord is only existent because you want somewhere to live and they want money. If they are getting what they want they will like you.
  4. Maintain Cleanliness – This should go without saying regardless of whether you’re trying to impress your landlord.
  5. Take the Trash Out – Do it.
  6. Improve the Outside – If you have a backyard/lawn then mow it. If you have plants then water them. I know you don’t own the place, but if you act like you do then the landlord will be that much happier.
  7. Lock the doors – If you get robbed and your place gets trashed then I’d be surprised if you didn’t get kicked out. You’d have lost all your stuff to thieves and lost all your landlord’s trust.
